Procedural visual effects are at the cutting edge of digital media, revolutionizing industries from film to video games. Mastering this technology opens endless creative possibilities, making it an essential skill for aspiring digital artists and visual effects creators. This workshop is designed to give Innovators a hands-on introduction to the powerful procedural workflows of Houdini, a leading software in the VFX industry.
In this workshop, students will explore the basics of procedural generation and simulation. They’ll dive into Houdini’s node-based interface to create visually stunning effects like fire, smoke, and explosions, as well as complex particle systems. Through guided exercises and projects, students will learn how to design and control these effects with precision and creativity.
By the end of the workshop, students will have a solid foundation in procedural VFX, a portfolio of visual effects projects, and the confidence to further explore Houdini’s vast capabilities on their own. They will leave with the skills to bring professional-grade effects to their future films, games, or digital art.
Projects in this workshop may include: Designing a destructible environment using particle and geometry nodes or building a procedurally generated cityscape with dynamic lighting
[My son] rarely talks about what he does in a camp. So when he volunteered information at the end of each day I knew he was loving the camp. The small group allowed him to get to know some of his camp peers and his instructors really well. On the last day of camp, before I even asked his thoughts, he asked ‘do I have any more camps with DigiPen this summer?’ Then he immediately went on to say he wanted to sign up for a bunch of them next summer because he learned so much.
