Comics and manga (Japanese comics with a distinct layout and style) are vibrant forms of storytelling that captivate audiences of all ages. They communicate all types of narratives, from comedies to fantastical epics. Their unique blend of illustrations and narrative makes them an accessible medium for self-expression, allowing artists and writers to share their creative voices and connect with diverse audiences. Some don’t feature text at all, relying only on each picture to tell a thousand words.
In Storytelling Through Comics and Manga, students will dive into the exciting world of comic creation. They will explore essential drawing techniques, develop compelling characters, and construct engaging storylines. With guidance from talented instructors, students will practice incorporating artistic principles and storytelling elements, culminating in hands-on projects that showcase their newfound skills.
By the end of this two-week workshop, students will have created their own comic or manga, equipped with the tools and techniques to bring their stories to life. They will leave with a deeper understanding of the creative process, ready to continue their artistic journeys and share their unique narratives with the world.
Projects in this workshop may include: Drawing a two-to-three-page adventure comic or creating a four-panel “day in the life” comic
